What is Inclusive Education?
Inclusive education is welcoming all students into the classroom and providing them with the proper aid they need in order to succeed. It also teaches students the benefits of diversity, cooperation and the consideration of others.
Why is Inclusive Education important?
Inclusive education is important because it provides equal opportunities for each student to learn about and accept individual differences. This is meant to lessen the impact of bullying and harassment while also encouraging the students to support each other no matter their differences.
How can we ensure our classrooms are inclusive?
As an educator, a big fear is that not all our students feel safe and supported, no matter their differences. So in order to ensure that we create inclusive classrooms, we have to get to know our students to the best of our ability. Not only do we get to know our students, but we have to allow our students to get to know who we are. After everyone has the chance to learn about each other, we have to ensure that our classroom is a safe space for our students to share their worries and excitement. In support of the differences in the classroom, we have to be open to delivering instruction in a large variety of ways. If there is a topic that you as an educator do not feel well versed on, try to bring in a guest speaker that is comfortable with it.
