Educators understand and apply knowledge of student growth and development.
During my journey in the BEd program, student growth and development have been a topic of conversation in almost every single course. A student’s education is based on their growth and development, so it surely makes sense that educators understand what student growth and development is.

In an education setting, student growth and development within their education is monitored through two forms; Formative and Summative assessment. Formative assessment occurs throughout a student’s entire education. It is a form of assessment that is captured during the process of learning in order to identify any misunderstandings as well as see the growth of understanding. Summative assessment is often done at the end of a unit, and it is used to evaluate students understanding and determine whether a repeat of what was taught needs to happen.
Student growth and development is monitored on a daily basis in the classroom. Not only are we watching for a student’s growth in their understanding, but we also monitor social growth. We ensure that we are preparing our students to be educated citizens so that they are ready to tackle the world when they complete their education.
Our attention to student growth and development not only benefits the student but also helps us make sure that the student is ready to move up to the next grade and is prepared with the proper foundation to learn the next step in their education.
