Educators engage in professional learning.

Not only do teachers educate our students, but they also participate in learning that evolves their profession. Teachers participate in professional learning in order to better their understanding of how to ensure the success of their students.

Throughout the school year, teachers participate in many Professional Development Days. These days are for many different reasons, ranging from activities like learning about Truth and Reconciliation and how to bring it into the classroom to learning how to bring meditation into the classroom. Teachers commit to a lifelong learning career, and Professional Development days provide teachers with the opportunity to learn.

but what does this standard mean to me…?

Standard 7 means that I need to be open to learning even after I receive my teaching degree. It means that as an educator, I learn throughout my career. Although Professional Development days are there for our professional learning, I will learn from my students in the classroom and from other teachers as well. There are multiple opportunities for professional learning within the teaching career.

So what’s next for me and Standard 7..?

As I do for all the standards, I am making a commitment to continue learning throughout my teaching career. I will participate in as many professional development days as I am able to so that my students can benefit from my knowledge, and I can benefit from theirs. In the future, the plan is to construct a career in which I am continuously learning and developing my professional knowledge.
